ABOUT ADI

A semester-long intensive program at Yale for students looking to challenge themselves and become better debaters.

We asked the students: what is your favorite part of ADI?

"Meeting other students and collaborating with Yale students. As well as being able to see an improvement in my articulation, speech, and debate skills. Also, the topics we debated were really interesting and expanded my knowledge on political and social issues."

ADVANCED DEBATE INSTITUTE (ADI) AT YALE

The Yale New Haven Urban Debate League runs an Advanced Debate Institute for students seeking extra enrichment. The program meets once a week for ten weeks in the Spring of 2024. The program fee is $500 for the semester, but generous financial aid will be extremely available. New Haven Public School students are especially encouraged to apply, though we accept applications from any high school parliamentary debater.

Debaters will practice advanced debate skills, discuss current events, and receive extensive feedback on their public speaking. A typical session may include a mini-lesson on a debate concept, drills, games, and practice rounds. The program will be online via Zoom, so students can participate regardless of where they live. Debaters from the New Haven area will have select opportunities to visit the Yale campus for competitions and tournaments.

The program will be held weekly beginning the week of January 15th and continuing for 10 weeks on Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 on the following dates:

1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 2/29, 3/7, 3/28, 4/4

The program is selective. We look for enthusiastic debaters at an advanced level.
