ADVANCED DEBATE INSTITUTE (ADI) AT YALE
A semester-long program for students who don't qualify for regular NHUDL programs. Once a week for a semester, you will meet with an experienced Yale debate coach for 2 hours and go over key debating skills. You will learn parliamentary debate and compete at our 3 local tournaments hosted at Yale. Applications are currently open for the spring semester.
The Yale New Haven Urban Debate League runs an Advanced Debate Institute for students looking for extra enrichment. The program meets once a week for ten weeks in the Spring of 2023. The program fee is $500 for the semester, but generous financial aid will be extremely available. New Haven Public School students are especially encouraged to apply, though we accept applications from any high school parliamentary debater.
Debaters will practice advanced debate skills, discuss current events, and receive extensive feedback on their public speaking. A typical session may include a mini-lesson on a debate concept, drills, games and practice rounds. The program will be online via Zoom, so students can participate regardless of where they live. Debaters from the New Haven area will have select opportunities to visit the Yale campus for competitions and tournaments.
The program will be held on Fridays from 6-8 pm Eastern on the following dates:
1/20, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10, 2/17, 2/24, 3/3, 3/31, 4/14, 4/21
The program is selective. We look for enthusiastic debaters at an advanced level.
Please reach out to andrea.chow@yale.edu with questions. Andrea will be the primary coach this semester.
Applications are currently closed and will open for Fall 2023 in the summer.
